At the start of Operation Market Garden on September 17, 1944, Allied pilots bombed the southern part of Ede. The target of these bombings was the barracks where German soldiers were stationed. Due to bad weather and navigation errors, many bombs did not hit the barracks but residential areas in Ede. 69 people lost their lives.

Program

On Friday, September 19, a commemoration took place at Parkweg for the bombing of 1944. During the commemoration, the events of that day were reflected upon. After speeches from, among others, Mayor Verhulst and music from Pegasus Pipes & Drums and Trumpeter De Harmonie, a minute of silence followed.

After this moment of silence, the audience sang the Wilhelmus together. Exactly at 11:25 AM, the moment when the first bombs fell, students from Ede schools laid flowers. At the end of the commemoration, the names of the victims of the bombing were read out, and a poem was presented for the students.
