Jan Hilgers Medal for Henk Gijsbertsen

On Wednesday, March 19, Henk Gijsbertsen received the Jan Hilgers Medal from the Municipality of Ede. Mayor René Verhulst presented this municipal award during the General Members Meeting of the Historical Association Oud Bennekom (HVOB).

In 1950, Henk Gijsbertsen became a member of the HVOB(Refers to an external website). Now, 75 years later, he is still an honorary member of the association. This May, Henk will turn 94 years old. He was not only a member but also a very active volunteer within the association.

From 1969 to 1998, he was a board member, founder of the documentation center, wrote several books, gave lectures, and published articles in the associations magazine.

Henk stopped volunteering at HVOB in 2021, but he is still active as a consultant for the association and researchers. His knowledge of Bennekom is unique.

In 2024, Henk set up the walking route “Bennekomse Benches(Refers to an external website)”. This walk passes by 21 benches with a history in Bennekom. Henk has captured and described these benches.

For all his contributions to the Historical Association Oud Bennekom, Henk Gijsbertsen received the Jan Hilgers Medal.
