On the morning of Friday, May 9, Tonny de Wit received the Jan Hilgerspenning from the municipality of Ede. Mayor René Verhulst presented this municipal distinction during a surprise moment with friends and family at Eureka Otterlo.
Tonny has been volunteering in Otterlo since a young age. He was a referee for SV Otterlo for many years, president and active volunteer at Ice Club De Zanding, and a loyal volunteer and caretaker of the Reformed Church Otterlo.
SV Otterlo
Tonny de Wit was a football player at SV Otterlo and quickly became a volunteer for the club. He was a volunteer referee for 23 years and has officiated many matches. He is still a loyal supporter of the club.
Ice Club De Zanding
For 45 years, Tonny has been involved with Ice Club De Zanding. He was president for many years and an enthusiastic volunteer. During the winter months, he would receive calls day and night to check if the ice was thick enough to skate on. Thanks to the careful inspections of the association, there has never been a serious accident, except for a few falls.
Reformed Church Otterlo
For years, Tonny de Wit was a well-known face as a caretaker in the Reformed Church Otterlo. Even after he stepped down from his work as a caretaker, he remained active. He helped organize the church bazaar and delivered Christmas cards.
Jan Hilgerspenning
The Jan Hilgerspenning is a municipal distinction. The medal represents pursuing your dreams and never giving up. The recipient of the medal makes a valuable contribution to the Edese community. It is an encouragement to become a high flyer and a reward for perseverance and reliability.
