On April 19, 2025, Martin Hevel was appointed as a Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau. Deputy Mayor Arnold Versteeg presented this decoration during the spring concert of the music association Irene.

In 1987, Martin Hevel became a member of the music association Irene as a trumpeter. He quickly became an active volunteer within the association. As the instrument commissioner, he was responsible for the maintenance of the instruments for many years and renovated them. He organized numerous activities and made each anniversary extra special with a film or a special activity. In 2001, he became chairman and was involved in all aspects of the association, from program booklets to sponsorship activities and from the new website to building sets; Martin Hevel was there.

Unfortunately, due to illness, Martin had to resign from his chairmanship prematurely, but he still contributes to the association whenever he can.
