The night shelter for homeless people will be permanently located at the WFC site. Nieuwe Kazernelaan 2-D85/86 building 86 will be prepared for this purpose. The municipal executive board has made a principle decision about this this week.

The municipality has a social and legal responsibility to provide shelter for homeless people. We believe it is important that no one in Ede has to sleep on the street. Currently, the night shelter is housed in the Sterrenberg on Bergstraat. That was a temporary situation, just like the temporary solutions that have been in place recently. Alderman Bram van der Beek: This constant temporary solution has major disadvantages for all involved. That is why a permanent location has been sought to create stability and clarity. It is good that we have now found one.

Complex search

Careful research has been done into a permanent location for the night shelter. This involved legal, judicial and spatial assessments. This was a very complex search, with multiple locations considered. The municipal executive board chooses the WFC site and building 86 for various reasons. Building 86 meets the minimum requirements with some adjustments and is owned by the municipality. The building is currently temporarily used by various start-ups. The municipality will try to find another location for them.

Social facilities

Facilities are within reasonable walking distance of the new location. There is also the possibility to create an outdoor space. Moreover, the municipality of Ede chooses an equitable distribution of social facilities over the city center, where the day shelter is located, and the station area. In addition to the economic and spatial development of the WFC site, the municipality also wants to provide a place for social facilities.
