On February 5th, it was announced that the environmental permit for the night shelter at Stationsweg 109 in Ede was annulled by the court. The College of Mayor and Aldermen then decided to keep the night shelter open until May 1, 2025. From May 1, 2025, a temporary night shelter will open in the Sterrenberg building on Bergstraat in Ede.
The location De Sterrenberg (near the Town Hall) is the only feasible option for the municipality to realize in this short term. In the summer of 2024, this location was already used as an emergency shelter for 10 people. This was done without significant incidents and nuisance to the surroundings.
The college finds it important to inform the residents of the Sterrenberg as soon as possible. Therefore, a decision has now only been made about the designation of the location and informing the community can start. An additional decision will follow on April 15, in which further elaboration will be decided. For example, it will also be announced how many people can stay and from what time the shelter opens. The additional information can be consulted via the website.
The Sterrenberg is a temporary location for the night shelter and will close no later than May 1, 2026. In the meantime, it will be investigated where the permanent, year-round night shelter can be realized.
