Within the framework of the Bod B5 project, Eindhoven is working on creating 130 hectares of new nature and 20 kilometers of Ecological Connection Zones (EVZ) by 2030, mainly in De Karpen.

The first phase is currently underway: a total of 85 hectares of new nature is being created, spread over multiple areas in Eindhoven. An important part of this is the Loovelden.

Although the Loovelden forms a valuable part of the stream valley landscape, large parts of the area currently consist of grasslands with low nature value. Due to enriched soils and common species, the biodiversity that naturally belongs here is missing.

Improving habitat

Various interventions are currently being made to make the grasslands wetter and less nutrient-rich, such as filling in ditches, placing small dams, new planting and forest edges, and creating a pond for amphibians. Alderman Rik Thijs of greening: This creates space for species-rich nature that belongs to the stream valley. It also improves the habitat for a wide range of plants and animals. That is what we want in Eindhoven.

The first 85 hectares of new nature is made possible in part thanks to support from the Groen Ontwikkelfonds Brabant (GOB).

Land acquisition

Furthermore, the municipality of Eindhoven is purchasing land in various locations to enable future nature development. Recently, 12 hectares were acquired in the Loovelden/Loostraat area: an important milestone for the project, especially because plots of this size rarely become available. With this purchase, the nature area can be further strengthened and developed.
