The developments of Kastelenplein and ‘Hugo’ receive a financial boost of 15.3 million euros. This brings the realization closer of pleasant residential areas with a total of over 1800 new homes. The national government announced that Kastelenplein will receive a Beethoven-Grex subsidy of 10,900,000 euros. Hugo has been granted a subsidy from the Housing Construction Impulse Act (WBI) of 4,400,000 euros. These subsidies contribute to solving deficits in the public land exploitation.

Alderman Mieke Verhees: It is good that the national government shows with this that the housing construction task in our region needs a strong boost. These subsidies provide the much-needed contribution to financially complete the developments. So that we can continue building for all those looking for housing.

Fijn Kastelenplein

The Kastelenplein in Gestel is being renewed. At least 800 new homes will be built, of which 85% are in the affordable segment. In addition, a neighborhood center will be created, the public space will be thoroughly renovated, and new facilities will be added in the areas of community meeting, care, sports, and work.

The Fijn Kastelenplein project receives a subsidy through the ‘Beethoven-Grex scheme’, aimed at public deficits in municipal land exploitations in our region. This subsidy fund is a collaboration between the province of North Brabant, MRE, ASML, the 21 municipalities, and the national government. The national government covers 75% of the deficit, and the municipality contributes 25% as co-financing.

Besides Kastelenplein, subsidies have also been granted for other projects in the region. In total, this concerns another 1700 homes.

Hugo

‘Hugo’ is the development at the corner of Hugo van der Goeslaan and Geldropseweg. BPD and Bakkers Hommen will realize about 1000 homes here. Also, 85% of these homes are affordable.

Hugo will be a pleasant city neighborhood where people can live, work, and stay comfortably and healthily. Together with the Koelhuis, a new, vibrant eastern city entrance will emerge. It is thus a major transformation in the area next to the Caai.

The Hugo project receives a subsidy through the Housing Construction Impulse Act. This is a national scheme also aimed at closing the public deficit in land exploitation. A difference with the Beethoven subsidy is that the WBI targets larger projects (>200 homes) and requires more co-financing (50%).
