From November 21 to December 27, 2025, Eindhoven will have a premiere: Night Embassy. A place where visitors of the nightlife area can find rest, conversation, or advice on Friday and Saturday nights between 11:30 PM and 4:30 AM. This safe space is located at ’t College, a side street of Stratumseind. Close to the hustle and bustle, but just outside it.

Night Embassy offers a homely, safe environment with tea and water, soft lighting, and trained hosts who provide a listening ear. It is not a classic aid agency, but a social place focused on recovery, safety, and connection.

Research among over 250 young people shows that nearly 90% support the concept. Hospitality entrepreneurs, police, GGD, and Novadic-Kentron also support the initiative.

Vibrant and caring city center

Alderman Robert Strijk (City Center): The Night Embassy can play a role in a safer and more inclusive night. It is a place where people feel heard and supported, without obligations or judgment. This initiative fits perfectly with our vision of a vibrant but also caring city center.

The pilot was developed on behalf of the municipality of Eindhoven by Stichting Nachtcollectief Eindhoven, in collaboration with social designer Imke Sloos and made possible by Knaapen renovation and maintenance. It aligns with municipal ambitions in safety, welfare, and livability at night. The project is part of the action agenda Sharing the Vibes: Together towards a vibrant Eindhoven.

With this initiative, Eindhoven joins an international trend towards more welfare and inclusion in night culture, comparable to the Safe’R Spot bus in Rotterdam and the British ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign.

Respect, consent and wellbeing

Imke Sloos: This project has been carefully prepared and I am now very curious how it will go. Hosts provide a listening ear and refer to professional agencies if necessary. It will play a role in awareness, conversations will be held about respect, consent, substance use, and wellbeing at night. All anonymous, without judgment and focused on inclusivity.

The deployment of Night Embassy focuses on: prevention and recovery, a safe place for visitors who feel anxious, overstimulated, or unsafe. The pilot period is used for data collection and insight into patterns and needs as input for future policy.
