A new design is coming for the renovation of Edisonstraat. The municipality has approved a plan from residents and entrepreneurs in the area. The ideas from the community will be used in the new design.
The Edisonstraat will be renewed between Celsiusplein and Stephensonstraat. This is the final step of the renovation in Woensel-West, where Trudo has been working for a few years.
A plan was made for Edisonstraat, but the neighborhood has changed in the meantime. Residents and entrepreneurs expressed their questions and concerns about that old plan. They also indicated that they had good ideas for the renewal of the street. Therefore, councilor Mieke Verhees temporarily halted the process.
“It is important that residents and entrepreneurs see the redesign as an improvement. Woensel-West is characterized in a positive way by high involvement of residents in their neighborhood. Their proposals for doing it differently are valuable, we must listen to them. That is why I gave them the chance to come up with a new plan,” said the councilor.
New Plan
The group got to work but had to take into account a number of frameworks. Among other things, about keeping trees, parking spaces, and a safe and clear layout for all users of the street. An important condition was that the group could demonstrate that the neighborhood supports the new plan.
There is now a new plan that meets the frameworks. The road will remain laid out in the current way. The parking spaces have been adjusted. More greenery will be added to the parking spaces. The underground containers will be moved. The large terraces and wide sidewalks will remain.
Development
The college has agreed to the new plan. The plan is now being developed into a design. This will take into account, for example, cables and pipes, space for the underground containers, and logical walking routes. This design will be ready after the summer. Then more will be clear about the planning of the work.
