The Municipality of Eindhoven forms two construction teams for the new layout of Stationsplein and Stationsweg. The contracts have been awarded to Strukton and Van den Berk Nurseries. A preliminary design is already ready. The construction team partners will work together to develop it into a final design. Strukton is responsible for the new layout of Stationsplein and Stationsweg, as well as the green spaces in the area, except for Stationsplein, for which Van den Berk is responsible.
27 mature trees will be planted in the square. These trees are already growing at the nursery. Together with the greenery at the towers of District E and along Stationsweg, the area will become much greener, creating a livable and attractive environment.
Councilor Stijn Steenbakkers (Eindhoven Knoop XL and Brainport):
“In the coming years, a lot will be built on the south side of the station. The first construction cranes are already working day in and day out. We are building many homes and a large underground bicycle parking facility. But this transformation also requires a new layout of the public space. We are moving from a lot of stone to more green, the Gender above ground, and more space for cyclists and pedestrians. In Strukton and Van den Berk, we have found good partners to build a pleasant place to come and stay. A new entrance that truly fits the future of Eindhoven.”
Director Ton van Oosterhout (Strukton):
“The area will not only become greener; we will also carry out the work as green and sustainably as possible. For example, by using circular materials, measures for climate adaptation, and the use of emission-free machines. This project also requires us to manage the flow of travelers to and from the station effectively. We look forward to collaborating with the municipality to build the transformation of this important area for Eindhoven and the Brainport region.”
Seller and advisor Thieu Pije (Van den Berk Nurseries):
The municipality demonstrates with this ambitious redesign that it truly looks ahead. By structurally incorporating greening into urban development, the public space becomes not only more attractive but also more sustainable and livable. We are proud to contribute to this forward-looking vision with our trees. Especially remarkable is the choice of 27 mature trees in Stationsplein. This means Eindhoven consciously chooses impact from day one: characterful trees that will be an integral part of the urban environment in full glory. A green contribution that is immediately tangible for residents and visitors.”
From temporary to permanent layout
The construction of EDGE Eindhoven and Lightyards is in full swing. The construction of District E is expected to start in mid-2026. In the lead-up to that construction, Stationsplein and Stationsweg will now be temporarily redesigned. Later, explosive and archaeological research will follow at Stationsplein. The final layout will be implemented step by step, as the construction projects in the area will also be completed at different times.
