The Foundation Memorial Trees and the municipality of Eindhoven have decided to stop the activities for planting and adopting memorial trees. However, it remains possible to donate a tree or shrub in Park Meerland in memory of a deceased loved one.
Lasting Memory
Earlier, it was decided not to place signs at memorial trees due to management and maintenance in public spaces. The foundation and the municipality have explored alternatives, such as QR codes. However, inquiries from people on the waiting list showed that this is not an appropriate alternative.
Councilor Rik Thijs (Public Space and Greenery) thanks the Foundation Memorial Trees for their involvement over the past years: Its good that we are now looking to the future with the possibility in Park Meerland. I think its important that we provide people the opportunity to remember loved ones through greenery. Greenery provides comfort.
The 220 existing memorial trees that have been placed in cooperation with the foundation - recognizable by poles and plaques - will remain in locations such as Loovelden, Genneper Parken, and Hondsheuvels, until the end of the agreed term of 15 years. After this period, the poles and plaques will be removed. The memorial trees will remain standing.
Arboretum Boomrijk in Park Meerland
Planting memorial trees remains possible, even now that the Foundation Memorial Trees is ending its activities. Arboretum Boomrijk in Park Meerland offers the possibility to donate or adopt a tree. Upon donation, survivors receive a certificate with the exact location (coordinates) of the tree. This provides a lasting, natural memorial place.
Arboretum Boomrijk is not only for memorial trees. Residents who want to contribute to the greening of the city, or have something to celebrate, can also adopt or donate a tree here. Additionally, volunteers are welcome who want to help maintain this green environment. For more information, visit the website of Park Meerland.
