Starting Wednesday, June 4, approximately 11,000 households in Eindhoven will receive a letter about the white goods exchange action from the municipality. Residents aged 18 and older who received the municipal Participation Contribution in 2024 are eligible to exchange their old white goods (such as washing machines, refrigerators, or freezers) for a new, energy-efficient appliance.
Councilor Saskia Lammers (Welfare and Poverty): This action helps people with a small budget with the often high costs of purchasing white goods. The energy-efficient appliances also reduce monthly energy costs.
Councilor Rik Thijs (Climate and Energy) adds: “Moreover, it is good for our climate. Energy-efficient appliances consume less power, contributing to a more sustainable Eindhoven.”
Letter and Exchange Process
The letter to residents contains a personal code to request a voucher of 550 euros. This voucher can be used to exchange old appliances (at least 8 years old) for a new, sustainable appliance. A total of 5 million euros is available and its first come, first served.
Several Eindhoven stores are participating in the action. Many of these stores also offer an online option. If they wish, participants can pay extra for more expensive appliances. The seller will take the old appliance and ensure the recycling of the materials.
