Mayor Jos Wienen has today, based on the Opium Act, closed a house on Nieuw Guineastraat in Haarlem for a period of 1 year. In this house, a large quantity of soft drugs, weapons, and items indicating drug trafficking were found following a report from Meld Misdaad Anoniem (Report Crime Anonymously).
Almost 10 kilograms of soft drugs were found in total in the house. Furthermore, the discovery of empty tobacco cans, filled grip bags, and thousands of pre-rolled joints indicates processing and trade in drugs.
The closure of the house was challenged by the residents through a summary proceeding. Last Wednesday, the court ruled in favor of the mayor.
“Drug trafficking brings danger and nuisance to the neighborhood. It makes a neighborhood vulnerable to drug-related disturbances. In this case, the neighborhood also experienced a lot of nuisance and dared to report it. Although closing a house is a measure that heavily affects residents, I find it necessary here to protect public order and safety for the neighbors,” says Mayor Jos Wienen.
