Haarlem wants to honor the famous sculptor Claus Sluter (1360 – 1406) with a memorial in his birthplace.
A group of his admirers has taken the initiative to erect a monument, aiming to raise awareness of Sluter as an important figure in Haarlems history. Sluter is often referred to as the Michelangelo of the Low Countries because of his influential work.
50,000 euros
The Haarlem municipal executive supports this project with a contribution of 20ac50,000. This amount comes from the EISMA prize money, which Haarlem received for winning the title of most innovative city. The art platform 37PK invites artists to submit ideas for the memorial.
The monument will be placed at the corner of Nassaustraat and Kruisstraat, a busy pedestrian route in Haarlems city center. The search for an artist will begin in the first quarter of 2026. The statue will likely be installed a year later.
