We are redesigning Zuiderpolder to create a greener and more pleasant neighborhood. We have made a plan outlining the main approach. On December 16, 2025, the executive board adopted this starting note.
Zuiderpolder requires major maintenance. The sewer system is outdated, the street asphalt is damaged in many places, and sidewalks have sunk. This causes water nuisance. With the redesign, we aim for safer streets and better sidewalks. More trees and plants will be added to the neighborhood, and new play and meeting places will be created. We will also improve water drainage.
Community Involvement
Residents will be actively involved in the plans. First, we will create a general design for the entire Zuiderpolder neighborhood. Then we will discuss the design per neighborhood with residents. The execution of the work will also be per neighborhood.
For each neighborhood, we will make a sketch design. Residents can provide input on topics such as greenery, play, meeting, and the layout of the area around the primary school. The input from residents will then be incorporated into one design for the entire neighborhood.
District Heating Network
Zuiderpolder will also get a district heating network to phase out natural gas in the neighborhood. Together with residents and partners, we will create a district heating plan. The discussions and work for this will be coordinated with the neighborhood redesign. Residents will soon be invited to think along about both the street layout and the future of gas-free living.
Next Steps
On January 6, 2026, the Management Committee will discuss the starting note. Afterwards, the document will be handled by the municipal council on January 29, 2026. For more information about the approach, planning, and opportunities for residents to participate, see the page Redesign Zuiderpolder
