The name of the new gymnastics hall in Haarlem-Noord is known: Turnhuis Haarlem. Sports Alderman Eva de Raadt unveiled it together with Ron Apeldoorn from gymnastics club HLC.
The name Turnhuis Haarlem was chosen by residents, athletes, and clubs. Everyone could submit an idea during a contest for a new name. We selected a top 5 from all submissions. Then people could vote for their favorite name. The number of votes for the names Pim Mulierhal and Turnhuis Haarlem were close, but ultimately Turnhuis Haarlem received the most votes.
Multiple Functions
Turnhuis Haarlem will be the place for gymnastics and freerunning in the city. The sports hall is also the new home base of gymnastics club HLC. There is space for top sports, talent development, and other activities. The adjacent Mendelcollege can also use the sports hall.
Official Unveiling
The name of the gymnastics hall was festively unveiled by Sports Alderman Eva de Raadt and initiator Ron Apeldoorn. The unveiling is an important step towards the opening of the new sports hall. “With 1,500 members, HLC is one of the largest sports clubs in our city. For years, HLC faced the limits of available gym halls. With this new gymnastics hall and spacious canteen, that changes. Besides more capacity for gymnastics in Haarlem, HLC finally gets a home. A place where members can train, meet each other, and develop as athletes and as people,” says Sports Alderman Eva de Raadt.
