A design has been chosen for the new swimming pool in the Noordersportpark in Haarlem North. The winning sketch design was made by the architectural firm NOAHH.

The new swimming pool will replace the current swimming pool De Planeet. That building has reached the end of its life after more than 40 years. Last summer, residents were able to view 4 sketch designs at the ABC Architecture Center. Many visitors gave their opinions on the plans. Their reactions were taken into account in the evaluation. An expert group, led by city architect Hanneke Kijne, also assessed the designs.

All groups chose the design by the architectural firm NOAHH. The design, inspired by a Roman bathhouse, fits well with the surroundings and the houses on Planetenlaan. It is a modern and well-thought-out whole that suits Haarlem.

For all residents of Haarlem

The new swimming pool will have, besides a competition pool, also a flexible pool. This can be used in different ways thanks to an adjustable bottom and smart walls. For example, for recreation, rehabilitation, or lessons.

Eva de Raadt, Alderman for Sports: “I am glad that sustainability and accessibility are central and that the design also looks beautiful. It will truly be a swimming pool for all residents of Haarlem, and I find that very important. In Haarlem, everyone should be able to exercise and move, regardless of age, background, or disability. Swimming pools play a crucial role in this because children come there from a young age.”

Noordersportpark

In the Noordersportpark, sports facilities are combined with housing, greenery, and parking facilities. Part of the parking spaces will be under the sports fields. This way, we use the available space optimally and keep the park green and attractive. Read more on the project page about the new swimming pool.
