The Gedempte Oostersingelgracht will be redesigned to include space for a neighborhood park: the Groene Singel. On Thursday, February 19, the municipal council approved the final design for the redevelopment. This marks an important step in renewing this area.
This decision finalizes how the new Gedempte Oostersingelgracht and Groene Singel will look. There will be less asphalt and over 4,000 m2 of additional greenery. There will also be playgrounds, sports areas, and places to sit and meet each other.
Bike Path and New Bus Stop
A two-way bike path will be constructed along the Gedempte Oostersingelgracht. This bike path will be paved and have as few intersections with main roads as possible. There will also be a new bus stop near the Amsterdamse Poort.
Together with Residents
Plans to redesign and green this area have existed since 2008. The Groene Singel was designed together with local residents and various interest groups.
The green design helps us better prepare for extreme weather, such as heat and heavy rain. It also supports the development of nature within the city.
Next Steps
Now that the design has been approved, preparations for the new layout will continue. Construction will begin in the second quarter of 2027.
