The municipality is purchasing an 18th-century garden house in the Wijngaardtuin. The municipal executive has decided to have the unique monument restored by the Hendrick de Keyser Association.
The garden house is a special monumental building of which only a few still exist in the Netherlands. It has original painted wall coverings and a ceiling with Rococo stucco work. This is decorative plasterwork on walls and ceilings such as curls and flowers.
The garden house is currently in poor condition but has great cultural-historical value. By taking it over and having it restored, we prevent further deterioration and preserve it for the future.
Restoration
The Hendrick de Keyser Association is carrying out the restoration. This organization has been committed to monument preservation since 1918. They restore the entire garden house and, for example, reinstall the painted wall coverings in their original places.
After the restoration, we will furnish the building as a guesthouse and meeting location. During open days, you can visit the garden house. This way, the monument becomes accessible to everyone.
Planning
The restoration is possible with a subsidy from the province of North Holland. Once the subsidy and permits are finalized, the Hendrick de Keyser Association will officially take over the garden house. The plan is to start restoration work in August 2026.
