Domestic violence often occurs behind closed doors and has significant impacts on peoples lives. Therefore, we collaborate with other municipalities and organizations in the Kennemerland Safety Region (KSR) to improve the approach. We do this through the Regional Roadmap for tackling domestic violence and child abuse.
By domestic violence, we mean all types of violence, such as child abuse, elder abuse, and partner violence. We believe it is important that people affected by this can count on our support.
New way of working
In households facing insecurity, multiple problems usually occur simultaneously. Many organizations are involved. Sometimes it is difficult to make agreements between organizations, and help can come too late. The Roadmap outlines a new way of working. It carefully examines what exactly is going on and what help is needed when the home is unsafe. This is done in various areas, such as income, housing, work, and health. We also improve cooperation between and with involved organizations.
Households receive a fixed point of contact who continues to support as long as necessary and maintains an overview of the help. This ensures that people do not have to tell their story repeatedly and that not too much or too little help is provided at the same time.
Alderman for Youth Bas van Leeuwen (Municipality of Haarlem): “Children and families should not suffer from differences in laws and regulations; therefore, this cooperation is necessary.
