Mayor Jos Wienen has closed a house on Schoterweg in Haarlem for six months. He did this based on the Opium Act. The police found nearly 2 kilos of soft drugs, ammunition, packaging materials, cash, and luxury items such as expensive watches in the house.

Three other properties were also searched. In a building on an industrial estate in Hoofddorp, a cannabis cultivation facility was discovered.

A 31-year-old resident of Haarlem was arrested on May 12, 2025. The searches were part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

Houses are meant to live in, not to facilitate criminal activities

Jos Wienen
Mayor of Haarlem

Mayor Wienen: “The presence of drugs, weapons, and large amounts of cash in a house poses a serious risk to safety and livability in the neighborhood. By closing this house, we draw a clear line: houses are meant to live in, not to facilitate criminal activities.”

Combating Undermining in Haarlem

To combat undermining crime, we work together with the police, Public Prosecution Service, Tax Authority, and Labor Inspectorate. This is done with the support of the Regional Information and Expertise Center North Holland (RIEC NH). By pooling knowledge and information, crime can be better tackled, and Haarlem remains a safe city to live and work in.
