Snow is causing slippery roads this week. Together with Spaarnelanden, we strive to keep roads and bike paths safe.

The slippery season runs from November to April. Spaarnelanden pays extra attention to possible slipperiness during this period. As soon as slippery conditions are expected, the gritters start operating.

Where Gritting Takes Place

It is not possible to grit all roads and bike paths in Haarlem. But important main roads and bike paths are always gritted.

In summer, we review what went well and where improvements can be made. This way, we stay prepared for winter.

What You Can Do Yourself

•    Shovel or sweep freshly fallen snow from your sidewalk or entrance.
•    Spread salt on places where many people walk or drive.
•    Spread sand on slippery spots where few people walk or drive.
