From setting off fireworks yourself to watching all the colors and graceful effects with family and friends. Fireworks are part of New Years Eve for many. Unfortunately, fireworks also cause victims, nuisance, and damage every year. To limit this, national fireworks rules have been established. These also apply in the municipality of Leeuwarden. This way, we keep New Years Eve safe and festive together. How do we do that? You can read below:
New Years Eve is festive but must also be safe. Therefore, only approved consumer fireworks that you can buy at recognized sales points are allowed. All other fireworks are prohibited; for example, firecrackers, ratchets, Chinese rolls and singleshots, cobras, butterflies, nitrates, and rockets. Want to go all out for safety? Then use safety glasses for fireworks.
When
On December 31 from 6:00 PM to January 1 at 2:00 AM you may set off fireworks. Keep in mind fireworks-free zones. No fireworks may be set off near petting zoos, the animal shelter De Wissel, and neighborhood/care centers De Hofwijck, Greunshiem, and Aldlânstate.
Carbide shooting
In the municipality of Leeuwarden, you may only shoot carbide with a permit on December 31 between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Request a permit before December 1. More information can be found on the page www.leeuwarden.nl/carbidschieten
Possession or setting off fireworks too early, what then?
For setting off or possessing allowed consumer fireworks too early, you will be punished. How severe the punishment is depends on what you did and how old you are. From 12 to 17 years old, an alternative is first offered: a referral to Halt (www.halt.nl) for completing a Halt program. If that is not possible or you do not want that, a fine follows. If you are caught with prohibited fireworks, the punishment is much higher because it is then a criminal offense.
Nuisance?
The municipality is reachable on Wednesday, December 31 from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM via phone number 14 058 for reports. You can also report nuisance, fires, etc. via the page: www.leeuwarden.nl/melding
