Do you take good care of your cat and want to prevent it from getting lost? Then chip your cat now. On Sunday, November 23 and December 7, 2025, you can have your cat chipped for free. In 2026, it will be mandatory to chip your cat.
This campaign is for all Maastricht residents with a cat that does not yet have a chip. A chip ensures that if your cat gets lost, it can be returned to you by reading the chip.

Why is a chip important for your cat?
The chip is slightly larger than a grain of rice and is implanted under the skin at the shoulder blades. Your cat feels a small prick. After placement, your pet feels nothing more. Each chip contains a unique registration number linked to your details. Every shelter and veterinarian in the Netherlands can read the chip.
The municipality organizes this chip campaign together with Stichting Dierenvoedselbank Hart voor huisdieren Limburg because nearly 180 cats go missing annually in Maastricht. This is very sad for both the cat and the owner. Without a chip, it is difficult to reunite the cat with its owner.
