From January 1, several changes will take place regarding waste collection in Maastricht. The goal: better waste separation and more reuse of items.
Residual Waste
- Residual waste will now be collected on Tuesdays in all neighborhoods.
- In the core shopping area, this will happen more often from January 1: once a week on Tuesday evening. This area has many high-rise buildings and student rooms, so residents often have little space to store waste.
Pmd Waste
Pmd (plastic packaging, metal packaging, and drink cartons) will be collected door-to-door in more neighborhoods in 2026. This includes Wyckerpoort, Heugemerveld, Wyck, Jekerkwartier, Kommelkwartier, Statenkwartier, Boschstraatkwartier, and Sint Maartenspoort. The collection day remains Wednesday.
In the core shopping area, we do not collect pmd door-to-door. The underground pmd containers at the 8 environmental stations in the center remain.
Textiles
We want to make it easier to recycle clothing and other textiles. Kringloop Zuid will collect textiles at home 4 times a year starting in 2026. Put clothes, shoes, and textiles in a gray waste bag (buy yourself at the supermarket). Close the bag well and place it on the correct day at the curb.
When will we collect waste in your street in 2026?
Do you want to know when we will come to your street in 2026? Or which waste belongs in which bin or bag? Do you need help separating waste? Check the MilieuApp. There you can see all collection days and useful tips.
Later in 2026…
Later in 2026, we will start a pilot with the BEST bag. We will also gradually place above-ground containers for vegetable, fruit, and food waste (gft+e) and underground containers for residual waste. The ‘greenclip’ will be available for free at the environmental parks from spring. This is a waste container clip for natural ventilation. Residents will be further informed about this later in 2026.
