Starting tonight, taxis without an exemption are no longer allowed to drive on Boschstraat and Markt during the André Rieu concerts. Traffic controllers will actively monitor. This measure is part of a broader collaboration between the Municipality of Maastricht and the taxi industry to better organize transport during busy events.
Regular consultations since Carnival
Since Carnival, there has been intensive consultation between the municipality and Taxi Interests Maastricht. The taxi industry provided valuable input for the evaluation of Carnival 2025. The result? More mutual understanding and concrete steps to improve the situation.
No extra rules, but smart solutions
Maastricht does not have its own taxi regulation. Anyone with a national taxi license can drive here. Nevertheless, the municipality is looking for smart, practical solutions within the national regulations that fit the situation in the city during large events.
Measures during the Rieu concerts
As a first step, taxis without an exemption will be barred from several sensitive locations, such as Boschstraat and Markt. For this, the following will be implemented:
- Traffic controllers will check exemptions
- Traffic signs will be adjusted at various locations around the city center
These adjustments will be made today, Thursday, July 17, 2025, no later than 5:00 PM. From that moment on, the rule is: no exemption, no access.
Goal: peace and safety
With these measures, the municipality aims to ensure a better-organized city center during the concerts: calmer traffic and better distribution of taxis. The taxi industry hopes for consumer protection and reasonable rates.
