In 2026, the city pays tribute to itself: the Maastricht Year. A year full of activities focusing on the citys history, encounters, stories, and connections. From large events to small neighborhood initiatives: everywhere the past comes to life and finds a place in the present.

Program

The Maastricht Year has 3 pillars:

  • The Historical Parade: a festive day full of performances ending in a parade that depicts the rich history of Maastricht.
  • City Programming: various events spread throughout the year and the city, with historical stories in a contemporary guise.
  • Neighborhood Programming: activities in neighborhoods, organized by the residents themselves.

Everyone can participate. Residents, associations, and organizations have the opportunity to contribute and implement their own ideas. Through subsidy options and support, participation is made as accessible as possible.

Connection is Central

“With the Maastricht Year, I hope every Maastricht resident feels connected to the city – native or immigrant, young or old, and from all layers of society. This year is for everyone,” says councilor John Aarts.

Want to Participate?

The Maastricht Year is for and by Maastricht residents! Within the programming, there is room for both individuals and groups to participate. Ideas and/or registrations for the historical parade and city programming can be submitted by sending an email to info@maastrichtjaar.nl
