We are working towards a cleaner city. Therefore, a so-called trash bin research has been conducted in the city center over the past period.
All trash bins have been checked. An advice and a guideline have been made for placing new trash bins in the city center. What turns out? Many bins are outdated, damaged, or often overflowing. It was also looked at how clean people find our shopping streets. The score? A solid 7! Better than the national average. Yet, there are still points of attention: especially waste from takeaway restaurants, cigarette butts, and shopping receipts are often found on the street.
What are we going to do?
- In 2025, we will place 50 larger trash bins in the center (including Mosae Forum, Markt, and Grote Staat).
- In some places, press trash bins will be installed. This is a slightly larger trash bin that has a compactor inside, allowing more waste to be accommodated.
- In 2026, another 50 bins will follow in the streets leading to the center and parks.
- The rest of the trash bins will follow in 2026 or 2027.
We are also looking at cooperation with entrepreneurs, so they can place their own trash bins that fit the street scene. We will also regularly maintain and clean the bins from now on.
