In the run-up to the 2026 municipal elections, we want to actively encourage local dialogue in Maastricht. Therefore, there is a new subsidy scheme for anyone who – on behalf of a non-commercial organization – wants to organize an accessible, open election debate in the city.
This scheme reduces the distance between politics and Maastricht residents and helps more people to go to the polls well informed.
What can you receive?
- Up to 1,000 euros subsidy per debate
- Total budget: 10,000 euros
- Allocation on a first-come, first-served basis – while funds last
The subsidy is intended for direct organizational costs such as venue rental, promotion, technical equipment, or guest speakers.
For whom?
Neighborhood associations, community centers, local meeting places, and other non-commercial organizations can apply. Residents may also apply, provided it is on behalf of such an organization.
Conditions in brief
The debate must:
- be public, free, and neutral
- treat and invite all parties equally
- take place in Maastricht before the elections
- include a plan of approach, budget, and communication plan
- be aimed at informing Maastricht residents about the elections.
Afterwards, you must submit a brief substantive and financial report.
Why do we do this?
Many neighborhood and district organizations are ideally suited to organize a debate that connects with what matters to Maastricht residents. With this scheme, we support initiatives that contribute to engagement, dialogue, and higher turnout.
Interested? Apply quickly!
Applications must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the debate date. Does your neighborhood, community center, or organization want to organize a debate? Then submit an application as soon as possible – before the budget runs out.
