Are you troubled by litter on the street? Disturbance from neighbors or loitering youths? Have you been burgled? Or do you sometimes see something suspicious in the neighborhood? These are some questions from the Safety Monitor that are posed to 13,916 residents of Maastricht.
The Safety Monitor is a study on crime, insecurity, neighborhood problems, and the actions of the municipality and police. This study is conducted at both municipal and national levels. The municipal study begins around July 25; results are expected in March 2026. Participants in the study will receive an invitation by mail to fill out the Safety Monitor questionnaire.
Essential
The municipality uses the outcomes of this biennial study to shape and evaluate its safety policy. The study is commissioned by the municipality and conducted by Ipsos I&O. Mayor Hillenaar emphasizes the importance of the Safety Monitor: “It is essential that we know what residents think about safety and livability in our municipality. This allows us to better align our policy with their wishes and experiences. Only with high participation can we create a good picture of the safety situation in our municipality.”
