In the coalition agreement Maastricht, city of connection, the college outlined clear ambitions. In the new framework letter, we indicate that we will continue to work towards this. Strengthening the connection between people in our city remains our great motivation. Together we make Maastricht more beautiful, under the motto We are Maastricht.
Examples of this can be found below in 2 interviews with residents.

Connection starts with contact between people
In 2026, we will particularly focus on more opportunities for meeting in the city.
We are committed to providing subsidies for activities or the deployment of professionals at locations. We want societal real estate to be available for this purpose. Public spaces should also, where possible, stimulate encounters. In the coming time, we will improve the design of many meeting places and work on sustainability or (re)construction of community houses and neighborhood centers. We will also improve the layout of the city so that people can continue to live, work, and relax in Maastricht in the future.
We will continue to increase the earning capacity of our region
For the earning capacity of South Limburg and its residents in the future, the further development of the Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus is very important. The campus in Randwyck has developed into an important location for medical and technological innovation over the past decades. Our ambition is to fully utilize the opportunities together with Maastricht UMC+, Maastricht University, and the Province of Limburg. By developing the Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus into an international hotspot for knowledge, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Aimed at economic growth and employment, closely connected to the city and the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. An example of this can be found below in an interview with an employee of ET-Pathfinder.

We will also work on the physical environment
We will extend the Green Carpet into the heart of the Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus. We will start this in 2026. The extended Green Carpet will be located between the railway crossing and the heart of the campus, between the MECC and Maastricht UMC+. This will make the campus greener, more accessible for cyclists and walkers, and more attractive for students, professionals, and residents.
Our further ambitions remain high
However, current events are constantly changing. The uncertainties of the security situation, climate crisis, energy transition, nitrogen problem, and financial developments influence our ambitions. This does not mean that we are sitting still waiting for what comes our way; rather, we are realistic and take this into account in our plans. And we work together with involved partners such as NCTV and the Safety Region South Limburg on social resilience
The choices of the cabinet also impact our city and the well-being of our residents. The impact of the Spring Note on municipal finances and the distribution in the Municipal Fund is uncertain and is still being translated into the May circular. In the first Management Report – which we will share with the council before the discussion of this Framework Letter – we present the most recent financial figures.
