The municipality has chosen the future neighborhood Lingezicht in Elst as the most suitable place for the construction of primary school De Zonnepoort. De Zonnepoort is currently located together with De Elstar, De Wegwijzer, and childcare BSO De Zee in the building of broad school De Zon in the Westeraam neighborhood. However, due to increasing student numbers, there has not been enough space for years. Therefore, several groups from these schools have been distributed across temporary locations since 2012. The municipal council still needs to decide on the proposal from the mayor and aldermen.
Why is this the most suitable location?
The council had a study conducted on 3 locations: expansion at the current site, new construction to the northeast of the Vierslag neighborhood, and new construction in Lingezicht. The main reasons for choosing Lingezicht are:
- The schools will be spread across the northeast of Elst.
- The landowner has agreed to sell the land.
- The location is large enough.
- The school boards have a preference for this location.
