From 2026, illegal users of municipal land will be offered a solution. The pilot starts on January 1 and lasts six months. The Executive Board decided this on October 21.

Why this approach?

We see that residents and businesses sometimes use land from us without permission. This impacts public space and its use. Moreover, it is unfair that some people use municipal land for free while others have to pay. Therefore, we want to put an end to this situation. We do this through the pilot ‘Approach and enforcement of unlawful use of municipal land’. With this approach, we want to make clear to everyone where private land ends and municipal land begins. We estimate that a total of 1,250 parcels of municipal land larger than 5 m² are illegally in use.
