In the weeks from August 18 to 29, you can see helicopters flying low over the municipality. The Royal Air Force will conduct an exercise in our region.

During this exercise, helicopter crews from Defense train to cooperate with colleagues on the ground. It is important that they can also fly at low altitude.

Why do helicopters fly so low?

In military deployment, it may be necessary for helicopters to stay low to the ground. For example, to avoid being seen by the enemy. This is called low flying. Helicopters seek cover behind forests, hills, or buildings. Low flying requires a lot of training and experience. That is why this exercise is necessary.
During the exercise period, helicopters are temporarily allowed to fly at low altitude in parts of Southeast Netherlands. In our region, this occurs between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM. The aircraft depart from Gilze-Rijen Air Base and also use Deelen Air Base as a stopover.

Defense takes residents into account
