On Tuesday, November 4, the municipality of Overbetuwe is organizing a youth council in the council chamber in Elst. Young people (ages 13 to 23) from Elst will engage in discussions with council members about their experiences with meeting places. This initiative aims to involve youth more in decisions that affect their living environment and show that their voices matter.

At the Table with Pizza and Ideas

At 5:00 PM, the meeting will start with salad and pizza. From 5:30 to 6:30 PM, several youth from Elst North and council members will talk to each other in the council chamber. Youth workers, involved officials, and other young people are welcome to listen and think along. There is space in the audience for young people from Elst (ages 13 to 23) who want to observe and respond to questions via Mentimeter to share their opinions. Want to participate? The registration link is at the bottom of this page.

During the discussion, the focus will not be on the design of future play areas, but on how young people feel in places where they meet. The following questions will be addressed:

  • When do you feel safe in a meeting place, and when do you not?
  • Are there differences in needs between boys and girls?
  • Would you like to help make a wish for your meeting place possible, for example, through a fundraising campaign or practical involvement?
  • How can the municipality best reach you to gather your opinions?

The outcomes of the youth council will help the municipality and the project team of Play Project Elst North 2026 to further shape the participation process. Young people will also learn how they can influence their own living environment.
