On the occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2024, the grand café and hotel Wapen van Elst in Elst was awarded the title Royal Warrant of Appointment. On Monday, December 1, Mayor Patricia Hoytink-Roubos unveiled the shield with the Royal Coat of Arms that belongs to this title together with owners Wiebe and Daniëlle de Vries.

First Royal Warrant Holder in Overbetuwe

In 2024, the Wapen van Elst celebrated its 100th anniversary. Due to this jubilee, a request was submitted last year, through the Municipality of Overbetuwe, to the Royal House for the Royal Warrant title. With the granting of the Royal title, the Wapen van Elst is allowed to bear the Royal coat of arms with the addition ‘By Royal Decree Royal Warrant Holder’. With this award, the Wapen van Elst is the first company in the Municipality of Overbetuwe to receive this title.

100 Years of Entrepreneurship

The Wapen van Elst was established in 1924. It was built that year to function as a hotel, café, and concert hall. Initially, horses and carriages were also rented out. In 1957, the garage section was sold, and the building then only had a hospitality function. Over the past 100 years, the Wapen van Elst has played a significant role in the social life of Elst.

About the Title

The Royal Warrant is a royal recognition that can be granted to small and medium-sized enterprises. An application can be submitted via the municipality and only for jubilees starting from 100 years, and thereafter every 25 years.
