The Municipality of Overbetuwe purchased on Tuesday, January 6, the share of Whoon Project Development in the land of the housing location Biezenkamp on Dorpsstraat in Driel. With the purchase of the land, a significant step has been taken in the development of the Biezenkamp plan. The plan provides for the construction of approximately 166 homes in various price ranges.
Which homes will be built?
Of the total housing supply, 50% is intended for sale by Whoon Project Development. Approximately 30% of the homes are social rental and are built by Housing Foundation Heteren. The remaining 20% will be offered later by the Municipality of Overbetuwe. The homes are intended, among others, for starters and seniors. The purchase and building claim agreement was signed by alderman Karel Grimm of the Municipality of Overbetuwe and director Roland de Waal of Whoon Project Development.
‘Important step for Driel’
Alderman Karel Grimm: “This is an important step towards the development of a new residential area in Driel. The demand for homes is high and with this plan, 166 homes will be added, including many affordable homes for starters and seniors. I am pleased that now, together with Whoon and Housing Foundation Heteren, after years of preparation, the next phase has been initiated.”
Wishes of the municipal council
Earlier plans assumed approximately 130 homes and new construction of a primary school. This plan has been updated by urban planning agency Atelier Dutch to a provisional urban design with approximately 166 homes. At the request of the municipal council, the municipality is investigating whether it is possible to add extra homes and whether sustainable building can be applied. The council also wants to investigate whether, besides the access via Dorpsstraat, a second access via the north side is possible. Once these investigations are complete, the area development will continue.
Stakeholders can participate and respond
The municipality will soon involve residents and other stakeholders in the further elaboration of the plan. This will be based on the provisional design. Interested parties can register for more information via the municipalitys newsletter. When the design is final, an environmental plan will be made. Stakeholders can respond to this later.
When does the sale of homes start?
The sale of the first homes will start once the environmental plan is definitively adopted and the environmental permit is granted. This is expected to be in 2028. Interested buyers can register via the project website of Whoon (https://www.Biezenkamp-Driel.nl) to stay informed about the housing supply.
