Waste collection in Rotterdam is currently catching up. City Management resumed work on Thursday, January 8, to clean up waste and empty containers in the city. Various teams first collect waste around neighborhood containers, after which the underground containers themselves are also emptied.
The people who collect the waste are also the ones who go out to spread grit, sweep, and do other tasks to keep roads free of snow and slipperiness. Combating slipperiness takes priority over waste collection.
Is a container full? Do not place waste next to the container. Please keep your waste at home until the container has been emptied.
Household containers
The household containers (better known as bin carts) are also emptied again according to the schedule. If your container has not been emptied, we ask for your understanding and request you to put the container back. Via the Waste Guide. Link opens an external page you can see when the municipality will come by again.
Our colleagues from City Management also went out last weekend to combat slipperiness. Therefore, it will take some time before the waste is cleaned up everywhere.
Christmas trees
We are currently leaving Christmas trees on the street. The municipality will collect Christmas trees separately later so that they can be processed into biomass and compost separately.
Bulky waste
Bulky waste appointments that have already been made will continue. It may happen that garbage trucks cannot reach bulky waste in slippery, narrow streets. Has your bulky waste not been collected? We have not forgotten you. As soon as possible, we will come to collect your bulky waste.
No new appointments can currently be scheduled for bulky waste pickup. This means that waiting times for an appointment will increase. You can still bring your bulky waste to the recycling center for free yourself.
Bike point closed until January 16
Due to winter weather conditions, the pickup of bicycles, mopeds, and scooters at the bike point is not possible until January 16. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
Grit salt
At the recycling centers you can still pick up free grit salt. You can also pick up grit salt at several neighborhood cleaning team (WRT) locations.
The stock of free bags of grit salt went very fast last week. Refilling bags of grit salt at the locations was also difficult due to weather conditions, but the stock is also running low. So it may happen that you come to a location where the bags of grit salt are gone. Our apologies for that.
Check on the slipperiness page where you can (subject to change) still pick up a bag of grit salt.
