On October 4th, its Animal Day, and Rotterdam cat owners can have their cats chipped for free at one of the participating veterinarians.
It is important to have your cat chipped, as cats can sometimes go missing. The chip is slightly larger than a grain of rice and is inserted under the skin at the shoulder blades. Your cat feels a small prick. After placement, your pet will not feel anything more.
Each chip contains a unique registration number that is linked to your information. Every shelter and veterinarian in the Netherlands can read the chip. This way, your cat can be returned to you. Starting in 2026, a chip will be mandatory in the Netherlands.
Action Conditions
- The action runs from October 4th to November 30th, 2025
- It is free as long as chips are available
- All residents of Rotterdam with a cat can participate
