Over 1000 new homes in De Esch, preserving the open, green, and water-rich character of the neighborhood. This is stated in the first plans from the city government for this area in the east of Kralingen. The document with the plans is now available for everyone to view.

De Esch is a residential neighborhood with an open polder landscape along the Nieuwe Maas river. Water is important in the neighborhood. In the past, water purification took place here, which is still remembered by the basin tanks and the water tower. The new city bridge is planned between De Esch and IJsselmonde.

Over 1000 homes

Just like in many other parts of the city, the municipality also wants to build in De Esch. Between 1050 and 1850 new homes are planned. The aim is to preserve the open and green character of the neighborhood, with attention to the unique landscape and heritage.

Nature, water and living

Therefore, there is now an area ambition document with 8 ambitions regarding nature, water, living, and climate. De Esch should become a model neighborhood where living and nature come together, with, for example, water play areas and a tidal park. There will be a family neighborhood and more space for active involvement of residents.

Speaking at committee meeting

An area ambition document is a first step in the development of an area. Residents have contributed and participated in discussions. They can now view the document and - if they want - speak at the committee meeting on January 7. The city council will then discuss it and make a decision on January 29 about the follow-up.

Oostflank and city bridge

The area development of De Esch is part of the Oostflank program. In the area between Alexander and Zuidplein, 30,000 homes will be built to meet the rapidly growing demand for housing in the city. The future of De Esch is also inextricably linked to the plans for the new city bridge and the tram connection between Kralingse Zoom and Zuidplein.
