The individual income allowance is extra money for Rotterdam residents with a low income. A resident of the city who A) has had a low income for more than 12 months and B) has no prospect of a higher income, is eligible for the individual income allowance. 

Difference per household type

Those entitled to the allowance previously received 120 euros per year. Now that amount will increase. How much higher the individual income allowance becomes depends on the type of household.   

Starting July 1, the amounts of the individual income allowance will be:

200 euros per year for a single person without children; 

300 euros per year for a single person with one or more children;

350 euros per year for those who are married but have no children;

450 euros per year for those who are married and have one or more children.

Income threshold

The amount of the allowance is not the only thing that will change from July 1. The income threshold for singles will also be adjusted. This income threshold is used to determine whether someone is entitled to the individual income allowance. 

Previously, the income of a single person was compared to 130 percent of the social assistance standard for families. From July 1, the income of singles will be compared to 130 percent of the social assistance standard for singles. The calculation behind the individual income allowance will thus be the same as that of other financial arrangements. 

If you are single and, due to the changed income threshold, no longer qualify for the allowance? You will still receive the 120 euros once. This will be automatically deposited into your account, 12 months after you last received the individual income allowance.
