More and more electricity cabinets are needed. Their placement must be done carefully and with attention to the surroundings. To ensure this, the Municipality of Rotterdam and Stedin signed a cooperation agreement on February 10.
We all increasingly use electricity. Think of electric bikes and cars, cooktops, and heat pumps. Therefore, the electricity network must be expanded, and more electricity cabinets are needed. Such a cabinet makes electricity suitable for homes and distributes electricity via cables to nearby houses. Hundreds will be added in the coming years.
Gray cabinets
Most new electricity cabinets measure 4.25 meters by 2.50 meters and are 2.65 meters high. The color is usually gray and sometimes green. The municipality finds it important to place the cabinets carefully, with attention to the surroundings. For example, no trees or plants need to be removed for the cabinet, or it does not stand out in the environment. They are even looking for possibilities to place it inside a building, so it disappears from the street view.
Informed in advance
This is now laid down in an agreement with Stedin. It is also agreed that the neighborhood will be informed in advance about the placement of electricity cabinets. The work around placing the cabinets is combined as much as possible with other planned work.
