Its no April Fools joke: two environmental parks are closing at the end of this week. The environmental park Delfshaven and the environmental park Hillegersberg-Schiebroek will be open for the last time on Saturday, March 29. On Tuesday, April 1, a new environmental park will open in Overschie.
The new environmental park is called Environmental Park + De HER. From April 1, residents of Rotterdam can bring their garden waste, white goods, and other bulky waste to Bovendijk 191, the address of the new environmental park in Overschie.
Environmental Park + De HER
The plus in the name reveals it: in Overschie, an environmental park and a circular center are combined. The environmental park there is larger than those in Delfshaven and Hillegersberg-Schiebroek.
At the new environmental park, there is also a circular center, De HER. Entrepreneurs work with bulky waste brought to the environmental park. The entrepreneurs at De HER reuse discarded items and materials to make new products.
This method of reuse is part of the circular economy, where the waste of one is a resource for another. The municipality of Rotterdam aims to be completely circular by 2050 and is working towards this with Rotterdam Circular.
Closing of Environmental Parks
It has been known for some time that the environmental parks in Delfshaven and Hillegersberg-Schiebroek will close. On the site of the environmental park on Keilezijweg in Delfshaven, homes will be built for the Merwehaven district.
The environmental park on Melanchtonweg in Hillegersberg-Schiebroek will also get a new destination. The municipalitys tree bank will be established there. Trees removed for work can be replanted in the tree bank, currently located on the ir. P Kosterlaan site, which must move for the new development of Nieuw-Kralingen.
Bulky Waste: Bring or Collect?
In addition to the new environmental park in Overschie, there are still five environmental parks in Rotterdam where you can bring bulky waste.
You can also make a free appointment to have bulky waste collected from your street.
