Mini-cruise to the Maasvlakte: Hoeksveer sails again

It is possible again since this week: sailing from Hoek van Holland to Maasvlakte 2 with the Hoeksveer. Good news for cyclists, tourists, and day-trippers.

Aldermen Robert Simons (Port and Small Cores) and Pascal Lansink-Bastemeijer (Mobility) opened the sailing season on Wednesday, April 2.

Mini-cruise

In Hoek van Holland, the boat departs from the Berghaven (Stationsweg). On Maasvlakte 2, the Hoeksveer stops at Europaweg 902 at the Princess Margriethaven. Pedestrians can take a shuttle bus to Portlantis, the new port experience center that opened at the end of March. Link opens an external page.

During the 50-minute crossing, you take a mini-cruise through the busiest port in Europe. You can enjoy impressive ships on the Nieuwe Waterweg from the boat. And who knows, you might even encounter seals along the way!

Boost for the entire region

Earlier this year, it was announced that the Hoeksveer can continue to sail in 2025. This is possible thanks to funding from, among others, the municipality of Rotterdam, the village council of Hoek van Holland, and the Port Authority. Alderman Lansink-Bastemeijer: A great boost for Hoek van Holland and the entire region. I am proud that we can offer the Hoeksveer and the thousands of enthusiasts who use it annually a new perspective.

The ferry operates until September 28. Together with regional partners, the municipality of Rotterdam is looking at the possibilities of keeping the ferry running in 2026 as well.

About the Hoeksveer

The Hoeksveer is a bicycle-pedestrian ferry and part of the international EuroVelo cycling network. Link opens an external page. This makes it a link in (inter)national long-distance cycling paths and cycling and walking routes. In 2024, over 22,800 people used the ferry service, of which 60 percent were cyclists and 40 percent were walkers.

A single trip costs 7.90 euros for adults. A return trip costs 13.10 euros. Mopeds, scooters, and mopeds are not allowed on board.

The Hoeksveer departs 4 times a day, from Wednesday to Sunday. In the summer months, the ferry service operates 7 days a week. More information about the timetable and rates can be found on the website hoeksveer.nl. Link opens an external page.
