Overschie will see the construction of a new, modern sports center and up to 450 housing units in the coming years. The Sidelingepark will also be connected to the Albert Cuijpplantsoen, creating a green and vibrant neighborhood heart.
The college of mayor and aldermen has approved the area ambition document for the Heart of Overschie. With this area ambition document, the municipality is taking an important step towards developing a lively, green, and well-connected neighborhood heart.
Sports Center on the Site of the Primary School
A new sports center will be built on the site of the primary school Het Podium on Burgemeester De Josselin de Jonglaan, featuring a sports hall, additional gymnasium, and a modern 25-meter pool to replace the current outdated swimming pool. The primary school will relocate to Pieter van Aschstraat. The new sports hall will also accommodate larger indoor sports. Outdoor sports facilities will remain and be enhanced where possible.
Living and Meeting in Starrenburg
The Starrenburg location, with outdated educational buildings on Willem Hedaweg and 2e Hogenbanweg, is set to offer space for a maximum of 250 housing units. The new construction will focus on starters and seniors, allowing residents to continue living in their own neighborhood. The municipality is exploring whether housing can be allocated locally.
Green and Vibrant Neighborhood Heart
At the same time, the municipality wants to connect the Sidelingepark with the Albert Cuijpplantsoen, creating a green and vibrant neighborhood heart. Along the 2e Hogenbanweg, there will be space for social functions, catering, or workplaces.
We are investing in housing, well-being, and movement – for young and old, and with the neighborhood. With the Heart of Overschie, we strengthen the beating heart of the neighborhood, where residents can stay, even as their housing needs change.
Working and Living in Kouwenhoek
Kouwenhoek, the industrial area on Piet Cottaarstraat and Abraham van Beyerenstraat, is set to provide space for a maximum of 200 housing units in a mixed work and living area. The public space will be improved, with more room for cyclists and pedestrians towards the Schie.
Developers, owners, and businesses are invited to think together with the municipality about the future of this area.
Follow-up and Planning
The municipal council is expected to discuss the area ambition document in June. After that, the municipality will further develop the plans in a master plan and sub-plans per location. The Overschie neighborhood will remain involved in the following phases. The implementation of the sports center and the housing in Starrenburg can then start in 2028.
