On Sunday, May 25, there will be a free opening festival at the new environmental park De HER. De HER is a circular center located next to the newly opened environmental park in Overschie. Entrepreneurs can rent a space here and make use of the valuable items and materials that residents of Rotterdam donate to the environmental park.
Entrepreneurship in De HER
Kristiyan Dyankov is one of the entrepreneurs based in De HER. Kristiyan is an artistic designer. He prefers to create large artworks that breathe new life into a space. He does this with circular materials such as wood or recycled plastic. On the first floor, Kristiyan shows his workspace. There are tools hanging and a desk with a computer and a 3D printer.
‘I found all the chairs at the environmental park,’ he says enthusiastically. ‘Every day I make a round at the environmental park. Last week I found a lot of mahogany! That is really a good find. I dont know yet how I will use it, but I will definitely use it.’
Wood Workshop
Via an app, entrepreneurs can indicate what materials they are looking for. If such a material comes in through the environmental street, employees of the environmental park set it aside. ‘But,’ Kristiyan says, ‘By now they know what we are roughly looking for, so they often set things aside for us on their own. It is very nice that they think along.’
Not only can entrepreneurs use the incoming materials for free, but they can also use the wood workshop in De HER. ‘That was the reason for me to come here,’ says Kristyan. ‘I cant afford that kind of equipment myself. And here I can just get started right away.’
