The Municipality of Rotterdam is doing something about it. The environmental service DCMR previously introduced a new system to measure noise in the Old Harbor. Link opens an external page. This makes it easier to determine where and when there is too much noise.
Starting April 17, there will be an experiment with nudging. This means that people are stimulated to behave differently in a direct yet friendly manner. In this case: to make less noise. On the street, texts and images will appear, such as: Keep your mouth shut! These remind visitors that there are also people living in this area. And that it is therefore important to keep the noise within limits.
The nudging test will last a year. In the meantime, different nudging variants will be tested to see which one works best. The results of the test phase are expected after the summer, and then the municipality will decide which variant to continue with.
