On May 6, the municipality will launch a campaign around Central Station to promote the underground bicycle parking. Construction will also begin on the neighborhood parking garage Jacob Loisstraat for residents, providing 103 bicycle parking spaces.
In Rotterdam, we love to ride our bikes. Its incredibly healthy, of course. However, the number of bicycles in the city is growing, while the public space unfortunately is not. As a result, bicycles are parked incorrectly in the parking facilities and neighborhoods. This causes nuisance and sometimes leads to dangerous situations. The municipality is going to address this issue.
Action for Underground Bicycle Parking
In early May, a campaign will start at Central Station to inform cyclists about the underground bicycle parking, which is still underutilized. Research shows that many cyclists do not know this parking facility or are unsure of its location. This parking is free, your bike stays dry, and there is almost always space available. The underground bicycle parking is located under the Stationsplein at the front of the station.
To make the benefits known, large advertising boards will be placed near the parking on May 6, 7, and 8. Ground stickers will also be applied, and promotional staff will be present to direct cyclists to the underground bicycle parking.
New Bicycle Parking Jacob Loisstraat
On the north side of Central Station, many people who do not live in the neighborhood park their bikes. Many residents and entrepreneurs experience nuisance from this and it creates unsafe situations. Therefore, space will be made for a neighborhood bicycle parking garage Jacob Loisstraat (behind the Provenierssingel). This will provide 103 additional bicycle parking spaces for residents. The work will start on May 19 and will last about seven weeks. The parking is expected to open in July.
