He was already it, but now it is also officially and festively celebrated: Thys Boer as night mayor of Rotterdam. Alderman Kasmi appointed him on Friday, September 12, at WORM during the Downtown festival.
The appointment of the new night mayor was part of the Night Plan for Rotterdam, which was presented last year. This plan aims to make the nightlife in Rotterdam more vibrant and inclusive. Among other things, by the return of the night bus and by the deployment of hospitality stewards as a point of contact for visitors. And also by the establishment of a night council with the night mayor at its head.
Advice on nightlife
This night council has been around since 2020: N8W8 R’dam. This night council is committed to a vibrant, socially inclusive, and culturally diverse nightlife culture in the city. The N8W8 is an independent advisory body that advises both entrepreneurs and the municipality on nightlife. The chairperson of the night council, Thys Boer, is recognized in the Night Plan as the night mayor.
Figurehead and point of contact
Jules Deelder was the first night mayor of Rotterdam. While for him it was more of an honorary title, for Thys Boer it is an official designation. Boer has been committed to the nightlife in the city since 2019. As night mayor, he is a figurehead and an important point of contact for the municipality, organizations, and entrepreneurs when it comes to nighttime matters.
